Cutting and folding

  1. Print the PDF at Actual size (100%) on card, one side only.
  2. Cut along the solid lines.
  3. Score the dashed line against a ruler with a blunt knife or an empty ballpoint, then fold it with the print outside.
  4. Stand the card on its edges: the name faces the guest’s seat and, with both sides printed, the rest of the table.

Keeps these settings in the link. Useful for moving from a phone to the computer with the printer on it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make place cards with names from a list?

Paste the guest list into the box, one name per line — or copy rows from a spreadsheet, where a second column such as the table number goes under the name. Choose the card size, download the PDF and print it at Actual size on card. Cut on the solid lines, fold on the dashed line, and every card comes out with its own name, set as large as fits.

What size is a place card?

The usual folded size is 3.5 × 2 in (89 × 51 mm), a little larger than a business card; table and tent cards for table numbers or a buffet run larger. The sizes here: Place card 3.5 × 2 in (89 × 51 mm); Place card A7, 105 × 74 mm; Table card 4 × 3 in (102 × 76 mm); Tent card 5.5 × 4.25 in (140 × 108 mm), or any size you enter from 40 to 180 mm a side. Each is printed flat at twice its folded height.

How many place cards fit on an A4 or Letter sheet?

Place card 3.5 × 2 in (89 × 51 mm): four on A4 and four on Letter; Place card A7, 105 × 74 mm: two on A4 and two on Letter; Table card 4 × 3 in (102 × 76 mm): two on A4 and two on Letter; Tent card 5.5 × 4.25 in (140 × 108 mm): one on A4 and one on Letter. The cards sit edge to edge inside a 10 mm margin that most home printers can print, and the sheet turns to landscape when that holds more.

How do I get the name the right way up on both sides?

Leave "Name on both sides" on. The far half of each card is printed upside down, so when you fold along the dashed line with the print outside and stand the card up, the name reads the right way up from both sides of the table. Score the fold first with a blunt knife against a ruler and it will stand straight.

What paper is best for place cards?

Card of about 200–250 gsm (75–90 lb cover) stands up and folds cleanly; lighter card sags on a large tent card. Check the heaviest card your printer takes — many home printers accept card only through a rear or manual feed — and print one sheet on plain paper first to check the names.

Can I use names with accents, Greek or Cyrillic letters?

Yes. When a name needs it, the PDF embeds a font with Latin accents, Greek and Cyrillic, so Zoë, Łukasz and Γιώργος print as typed. Characters it cannot print, such as Chinese, Japanese or emoji, are named under the list before you download, rather than printing as something else.

Are the names sent anywhere?

No. The cards are drawn in your browser and nothing is uploaded. A link made with "Continue on another device" carries the card size and the sheet, never the names or the line you typed.
