Folding it
- Print at Actual size, then cut round the solid outline.
- Crease every dashed line against a ruler before folding — a blunt knife or an empty ballpoint gives a sharp fold.
- Fold the two side flaps in, then fold the bottom flap up over them and glue it along its slanted edges.
- Insert the card or letter, fold the top flap down and seal it.

Frequently asked questions
How do I make an envelope from a sheet of paper?
Print the template at Actual size, cut round the solid outline and crease the four dashed lines against a ruler. Fold the two narrow side flaps in first, fold the bottom flap up over them and glue it along its two slanted edges only, so the middle stays open. Put the card or letter in, then fold the top flap down and seal it with glue or a sticker. Paper of 90–120 gsm folds cleanly; copier paper works but shows what is inside.
What size envelope do I need for my card?
Choose "Size from what goes inside" and enter the card: the envelope comes out 3 mm larger on every side, which is the usual clearance for a card to slide in without catching. A 5 × 7 in card needs about 5.25 × 7.25 in — the US A7 envelope — and an A6 card (105 × 148 mm) fits a C6.
Why does a DL envelope need A3 paper?
Because the flaps need room. A pocket envelope folds up from a sheet about twice its own height: the bottom flap covers more than half the back and the top flap half, so they overlap and nothing shows in between. A DL envelope is 110 mm tall, so the template is 231 mm tall and 251 mm wide, which is more than A4 or Letter holds with a printer margin. C6, US A2 and US A6 templates fit on A4 and Letter.
Can I print the address on the envelope as well?
The template marks the inside of the front panel, so anything printed there ends up inside. Address the envelope by hand after folding, or run the folded envelope back through the printer with an envelope size set in the print dialog — our DL, C5, C6 and US #10 pages give those sizes.
