Clock face generator
Printable clock faces, 1 to 12 on a page, blank or with hands at the times you type or at random — o’clock, half past, quarter hours, 5 minutes or any minute. Telling time worksheets with an answer key, and a large teaching clock with hands to cut out, printed at an exact size. Free PDF, A4 or Letter.
2 pages on A4. Print at Actual size or 100%.
How to use it
- Choose clock faces, a worksheet (write the time, or draw the hands) or the teaching clock.
- Pick how many clocks a page and the times: random at the step being learnt, or typed.
- Add the minute marks, the 24-hour ring or the minutes ring as the class needs them.
- Download the PDF and print at 100%; the answer key is the last page.
Why the hands are right
The minute hand turns 6° a minute and the hour hand 0.5° a minute, so every clock here has its hour hand where a real clock has it: at 7:40 it is two thirds of the way from the 7 to the 8, not on the 7. Reading that position is half of telling the time. The faces are drawn as vector circles and lines, sharp at any size, and the teaching clock prints at the diameter you set when the PDF is printed at 100% — check it with a printable ruler.

Frequently asked questions
Where does the hour hand point at half past?
Halfway between the two hours. The hour hand turns 30° an hour, so half a degree every minute: at 3:30 it is 15° past the 3, at 3:45 three quarters of the way to the 4. Many printed clocks put it on the hour, which teaches children to misread the time; here it is always drawn where a real clock has it, at 30 × hour + 0.5 × minutes degrees from 12.
How do I make a telling time worksheet?
Choose “Write the time” (the clocks show the time and the child writes it in the box) or “Draw the hands” (the box gives the time and the child draws the hands), how many clocks a page, and the step: o’clock, half past, quarter hours, 5 minutes or any minute. The answer key follows on its own page. Print several pages, or type your own times instead of random ones.
Can I print the same worksheet again?
Yes. Random times come from the set number printed at the foot of the page: the same settings and the same number give the same clocks. Change the number, or press New set, for a fresh sheet.
How do I make a clock with moving hands?
Choose Teaching clock. The first page is the face at the size you set — up to 20 cm across on A4 — with a cross at the centre; the second has a minute hand and an hour hand to the same scale, each with its own cross. Glue both pages to card, cut them out, make holes at the crosses and join them with a paper fastener (a split pin or brad).
What are the 24-hour and minute rings for?
The 24-hour ring writes 13 to 24 inside the hour numbers, so 15:00 can be found beside the 3. The minute ring writes 00, 05, 10 … 55 outside the face, which helps children who are learning that the 3 means 15 minutes past. Choose 24-hour digital times to have the boxes and answers in 24-hour form.
Will the teaching clock print at the size I set?
Yes, if the PDF is printed at Actual size or 100%: the page says how wide the face is, so a ruler can check it. “Fit to page” shrinks it by a few percent. The face keeps a 5 mm edge from the paper, so 200 mm is the largest on A4 and 205.9 mm on US Letter.
