Seating chart maker
A printable seating chart for a wedding, a dinner or a classroom: paste the guest list, choose round or banquet tables (or rows of desks), and the guests are seated for you — couples and families kept together, tables filled evenly — on a floor plan with the names round each table, with an alphabetical find-your-seat list and folding table numbers. A seating chart generator with no sign-up: the names never leave your browser.
0 of 0 seated, 6 tables of 8 (48 seats). 2 pages (plan 1, list 1) on A4. Print at Actual size.
Paste the guests, one per line, to seat them.
How the guests are seated
Guests with a table at the end of their line are seated there first. Then the rest of the list is seated in order, a group at a time — a group being the lines between two blank lines — at the first table with room for the whole group, without taking any table past its share of the guests. So the tables fill evenly and the people next to each other on your list sit together: 26 guests at 6 tables of 8 sit 5, 5, 4, 4, 4, 4, not 8, 8, 8, 2. Choose Fill table 1 first to fill each table before the next one instead, for a top table or when you will leave the last tables empty.
Round tables are drawn with a seat for each place and the names round the outside; a table not full has its guests spread round it. Banquet tables are drawn with the seats down both long sides, filled left, right, left, right, so couples face each other. Anyone who does not fit is named above the preview — never left off silently.
What you print
The floor plan puts as many tables on a page as it can while keeping the names at least 8 pt where that is possible; a large wedding goes on A3 or Tabloid, or over several sheets that join, trimmed and taped like a poster. The find-your-seat list is alphabetical, with the table (or row and desk) beside each name, and the table cards are a sheet each, folded in half to stand. For a name card at every place, paste the same list into the place card generator.

Frequently asked questions
How many guests fit at a 60-inch round table?
Eight comfortably, ten if they sit closer — the figure table rental and furniture suppliers give for a 60-inch (5 ft) round. A 72-inch round seats 10 to 12, and a 48-inch round 4 to 6. Set Seats per table to what your venue says its tables take; the floor plan draws that many seats round each table.
How many people sit at a banquet table?
An 8-foot banquet table (96 × 30 in) seats 8 to 10: four down each side and one at each end if the ends are used. A 6-foot table seats 6 to 8. The chart draws banquet tables with the seats down the two long sides, filled across the table — left, right, left, right — so a couple or a family sits face to face.
How do I keep couples and families together?
Leave a blank line between groups: everyone in a block of lines without a blank line between them sits at the same table. A group too large for one table is split over the tables with the most room, and the page says so. A list with no blank lines at all is treated as a list of individuals, seated in list order.
Can I put a guest at a particular table?
Yes: end the line with the table number — “Grace Kim, Table 1”, “Grace Kim, 1” or “Grace Kim; T1”. Those guests are seated first, at the table asked for; everyone else is seated around them. A number larger than the number of tables, or a table that is already full, is reported rather than ignored.
What happens if there are more guests than seats?
The chart seats as many as there are seats and lists everyone who did not fit by name, above the preview, so nobody is left off the chart without you knowing. Add a table or a seat per table and they are seated.
What is a “find your seat” list?
The alphabetical list guests read at the door to find their table — the same job as escort cards, on one sheet. It is sorted by last name (or first name, if you prefer), with a letter heading for each new initial, in as many columns as the paper takes. Print it on A3 or Tabloid to put it on an easel.
What classroom seating layouts can I make?
Choose Classroom and set the rows (front to back) and desks across: the chart draws the desks in rows with the front of the room at the top and each pupil’s name on a desk, filled in list order, row by row from the front. For groups or pods, use Round tables with four to six seats each instead. The list of pupils stays in your browser.
How do the table number cards fold?
Each card is a whole sheet folded across the middle along the dashed line: the number reads the right way up on both faces once it stands, because the far face is printed upside down. For name cards at each place, paste the same list into the place card generator.
Are the guest names uploaded or saved?
No. The chart is drawn in your browser and the names go only into the PDF you download. They are not sent anywhere, not stored, and not in the link from “Continue on another device”, which carries only the tables and the settings.
