Printable sudoku generator
Print sudoku puzzles that no one has seen before — easy, medium or hard, 9 × 9 or 4 × 4 and 6 × 6 for children — one to six on a page, with the answers at the back. Every puzzle has exactly one solution.
Fewer numbers given; still solvable square by square without guessing.
Any number from 1 to 999,999; the same number always prints the same puzzles. Today’s set is the same for everyone and changes at midnight.
4 9 × 9 puzzles, 30 numbers given in each, set 1.
How the puzzles are made
Each puzzle starts as a complete grid filled at random under the rules — every row, column and box holds each number once. Then squares are emptied one by one in a random order. After each, a solver checks that the grid still has exactly one solution; for Easy and Medium a second check makes sure it can still be finished one square at a time. If a square fails a check, its number goes back in. That is why the answer pages always match and no puzzle needs a guess unless it says Hard. Frequently asked questions
How do I print sudoku puzzles?
Choose the size, the difficulty and how many puzzles go on a page, then download the PDF: the puzzles first, then the answer pages. Up to 6 puzzles a page and 10 pages, so up to 60 puzzles in one file, on A4 or US Letter. Every puzzle is different; press → or Random set for another batch, or type any set number.
Does every puzzle have exactly one solution?
Yes. Each puzzle starts from a complete random grid, and a number is taken out only if a solver still finds exactly one way to finish the grid. The answer pages show that one solution, with the numbers that were given in black and the ones to find in grey.
What do easy, medium and hard mean?
Easy leaves 38 numbers in a 9 × 9 grid and Medium 30; both can be finished one square at a time, by finding a square where only one number fits or a number that fits in only one square of a row, column or box — no guessing. Hard leaves about 24 and needs pencil marks: writing the possible numbers in a square and ruling them out.
Is there sudoku for kids?
Yes: choose 4 × 4 (numbers 1 to 4, boxes of 2 × 2) or 6 × 6 (numbers 1 to 6, boxes of 2 × 3). They follow the same rules with fewer numbers, and Easy at 4 × 4 suits children from about five. One or two puzzles a page gives big squares for young hands.
Can I print the same puzzles again?
Yes. Each batch has a set number, from 1 to 999,999, printed at the foot of every page; the same size, difficulty and set number always make the same puzzles in the same order. Type the number into Set number to print the puzzles or their answers again, or share the set with a link. A first visit starts on a random set, so two people rarely get the same puzzles.
